Want to Start Playing Squash but Don’t Know Where to Begin? Take a Look at These Tips on Joining Your Local Squash Communtiy

Us squash tournaments

Squash isn’t typically considered as popular as tennis, another racquet sport, but it has a dedicated following of millions of players and fans worldwide. Like tennis, it involves two (or more) players hitting a ball with their racquets; unlike tennis, however, squash is played with both players facing a wall and hitting the ball against it. Squash also has its own rules and regulations, and as a result, it’s got its own community, as well.

If you’ve wanted to get involved in playing squash, here are three ways you can join your local squash community — or just become a fan of the sport:

    1. Attend a squash tournament. What better way is there to join the squash community than to see a game played right in front of you? Each year there are several US squash tournaments held all over the country, and other nations host their own squash tournaments, too. These tournaments not only give spectators a chance to see the greatest squash players in the world, but they also give new and seasoned players the chance to see just how the sport is played.

    2. Enroll in a squash class or clinic. Many clubs and organizations offer squash training clinics for amateurs and professionals alike and for virtually all age groups and skill levels. Clinics can take place either as group classes or include one-on-one training, and many times they offer both. Taking a class with other beginners can be a great, supportive environment to begin playing the sport.

    3. Join a racquet and tennis club. Where there’s tennis there’s usually squash, too. Find a tennis club near you and see if they also offer squash courts. Many of these facilities give members and their guests access to tennis and squash courts, pro shops, and other amenities, like luxury spas and juice bars.

How did you first get involved in the squash community? Tell us about your experience in the comments section.
