If you build it, people will ride it.
Or, at least that is true in the Netherlands. In fact, when Utrecht, Netherlands city officials unveiled the first section of the world’s largest bike parking garage six months ago, it was a huge success. A small city in the center of the Netherlands, many of the 6,000 new, state of the art bike parking spots filled almost immediately. In a country where there are more bikes than people, there is a nearly insatiable public demand for infrastructure to support biking. From bike parking garages to new and expanded trails, there are a number of ways that bicycle shops in that part of the world are seeing an increased number of sales.
Bicycle Companies Offer a Number of Different Kinds of Products
Although there may not be many places in America that have embraced biking as much as the Netherlands, it is still important to make sure that communities are doing as much as possible to encourage this healthy activity that also helps the environment. Bike shops, in fact, offer many kinds of products that help create a way to make sure that there are a number of ways that both casual and frequent riders can find the items they want.
Bicycle shops are trying to encourage recreational riders to consider riding to work on a regular basis in an effort to make sure that there are more people on bikes than in cars. At nearly twice as many motor vehicles, there are roughly one billion bicycles in the world. In fact, as recently as the spring of 2017, 66.21 million people in the U.S. had gone cycling within the last 12 months. The trick, however, is to get all of these people to not only ride for recreation, but also for daily commutes like going to work or to college classes.
In addition to helping the environment, A 2017 study indicated that biking to work also burns as much fat as spending 40 minutes at the gym five days a week. When you get home from work, then, you will also be done with your workout goals for the day. Whether you live in the Netherlands or near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, there are many ways to make sure that you get the exercise you need and help the environment at the same time.
